Monterey Trail High School Junior January 2007
“I’m sorry, Alan, the Driver’s Ed class cannot fit into your schedule” are the words I have heard from my counselor for the past two years of high school, words which have put me in distress and frustration many times.
Driver’s Education is necessary in order for one to be a responsible driver, but my schedule is already occupied with vigorous advanced courses like AP Calculus, AP English 11, AP Physics, and AP US History. Not only am I enrolled in these courses, but I am also committed to extra-curricular activities and programs such as Student Government, Mathletes, Academic Decathlon, Key Club, National Honor Society. Youth Court, and Mock Trail. I am also part of the Monterey Trail Men’s Varsity tennis team, which starts in spring season and holds practices after school for two hours and for three hours on weekends. These activities take time and passion to be successful, but punctuality and independence also play a crucial role.
Due to the time conflicts, I am more than willing to take my Driver’s Education class in four days, but the cost matters too. All the academic and extra-curricular activities have left me little to no time for paid employment. Moreover, both of my parents work extremely hard to support my siblings financially for their college education, and to help me fund the tests for the AP courses, each of the tests costing about $80.00.
Next year, I will be a senior at Monterey Trail High School and as I play my self-reliant future to join the labor force and save money for college tuition, transportation is the key to relieve my parents’ burden. The first step that I will have to take is to be enrolled in the four-day class to earn my driver’s license, which will open doors to myriad opportunities in terms of employment. To help me overcome all of these obstacles, I feel that I deserve the free four-day class that you so generously offer through Absolute Best Driving School. Your investment in me will help realize my goals of becoming a responsible driver as well as securing my future in higher education.
Sincerely,
Alan.
