West Campus High School Sophomore Dated August 2006
Hello, my name is Christina (not real name), but many people call me Tina. I live in Rancho Cordova but I attend West Campus High School, located in South Sacramento. The reason I attend this school is because it was a great college prep school, and also my father worked near there. Everything was going fine; until this summer when I learned that he was getting laid off.
Many people would ask me, “If your dad is getting laid off, why would you still attend a school that is so far?” I thought about what they said, but I also remembered all of the hard work I have accomplished at West Campus High. For instance, I was on the Principal’s Honor Roll, participated in many campus clubs, and also I was also getting Vietnamese Club back on track by being president. I did not want to throw away all of my dreams and accomplishment just because of some hardships. My ambitions toward school convinced myself that I can still achieve my goals if I tried harder.
This year had been a really tough time for my family and I. With my father being laid off, everyone in the house felt like there was nothing we can do. I did not want to bother my parents whenever I wanted to go hang out with my friends or when I wanted to go somewhere. Therefore, I decided that I should learn how to drive so that I can be more independent. That way, I don’t have to bother my parents to drive me to school and back because it is a waste of their time. And I can become more responsible by getting a job and saving up for gas money.
I hope that by writing this letter I can convince you to enroll me in a free education class. I know that driving is a fear that many parents have due to many teen accidents. And I admit that I am afraid to drive because nowadays teens would take on-line class rather than going to school to learn because they believe it is easier and faster. I believe that driving is a privilege to us teenagers because it helps us become more responsible and independent.
Once again, I would like to thank you for reading my letter. And if you decide that I do not qualify to receive a free driving education, I understand because there are many other people who have been through more than I have. Thank you for your time and cooperation.
Best regards,
Tina.
